Thank God It's Friday! Random shots of bikes of Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. It's Friday again, the best day of the week, and I am looking forward to a weekend filled to the brim with some serious chilling out, possibly combined with some heavy doing-nothing, while avoiding any activities whatsoever...sounds like a plan, doesn't it? It does, it does...now quickly off to work (yes, I'm still working Fridays, sigh) and soon the magic time begins again :)

Life is just a chain of single moments if you think about it, and each and every one of those moments combined make up a day, week, month and year, so if you feel good about a whole year, you've probably experienced manymany good moments, just a blink of an eye, just a fleeting impression, a bit of sunshine, a pretty girl, a friendly word, a feeling, whatever it is, it makes all the difference, and I hope and wish that you and I will have tons of those positive, life-changing little moments, so that at the end of this year we can again say that it was a good year :)

I don't know how you do it, but you've put some kind of spell on me, and every other city looks boring compared to you. You provide us with many wicked things to make our live inside of you more interesting, you supply us with plenty of pretty girls on bikes and sometimes even a sunny day, you are colorful and beautiful, you are dark, gray and harsh, you are a kid in the park on the first day of Spring, you are a drunken tourist stumbling through the back alleys of the Red Light Districs, you are rich, you are poor, you are confusing and exciting, you are so many things and still you're just good old Amsterdam, the best city in the world, and I love you...hugs&kisses, Sam :)

The Giant Black Bikers Unedited shots of bikers reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Oh man, Amsterdam has been invaded by an Army of giant black bikers lately, they are cruising through the mean streets of the best city in the world, looking for potential Transcendent Travelers, that they can chase towards the light, that will transform them into Ghost-riders who are doomed to spend eternity biking up and down the endless, well-paved, downhill bike path that awaits all of us one day. I have one thing to say to those giant black bikers: "Take it easy, we'll all ride into the light soon enough anyway, so give us a break dudes!", but as giant black bikers are, they only have one thing on their mind, chasing us into the light, they don't care and keep doing their thing, so I guess we'll all have to bike much faster from on, so that these suckers can't catch us, lol :D

The Transcending Travelers Unedited shots of people in Amsterdam reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. If a biker in Amsterdam senses that he/she enters the final hour of his/her lifetime, not unlike seagulls that fly out to the open sea to die, they climb on their bike and take off for a final ride that will eventually allow them to peacefully transcend into the next world, where an endless, well-paved, downhill bike path is eagerly awaiting their arrival for their eternal last ride, together with all those good souls that went before them. I've actually managed to capture the very moment these fellow bikers entered the light, that transforms and transports them to their final destination, where we'll all meet again one fine day :)

I've mentioned it already a few times, in the last months I had to work a lot more than usual, and I barely have time to take any pictures, but luckily some of the prettiest buildings in Amsterdam are located along my way to work, so I sometimes quickly hop off my bike, take a few snaps and share them with the Interwebs. Of course it's not the same. I really miss spending my Fridays out in the streets, hunting puddles and people with my trigger-happy camera, enjoying the rest and relaxation, the feeling of freedom that you just can't buy for the little extra money I get for all that extra work. Bikes Bikes Bikes Slightly edited shots of bikers in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. It's Spring and everybody is back on their bikes, even those of us who prefer other means of transportation during the cold/icy/slippery season, so the bike paths and narrow streets are filled with steel horses swooshing off in all directions again, a wonderful madness to look at!. It always seems that we're all going to crash into each other or the cars, buses and trams interfering with our travels, and explode into a giant fierce fireball, but I can assure you, it's all perfectly safe, on those really rare occasions where I see people actually getting involved in crashes, in 99% of all cases we just rearrange the parts of our bikes that got twisted or turned, hop back on and keep cruising, luckily :)

The First Day Of Spring Canal reflections of Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. No editing or magic tricks besides whatever that app did to the picture, no Photoshop. In the warmer'ish times of the year it can happen that it doesn't rain for days or even weeks and all the puddles dry up, so I'm really lucky that the best city in the world is full of canals, that in the morning, when I'm biking to work, are often silent and quiet, their surface still unharmed by the trillions of tourist-tour boats that will populate the water network a few hours later, and sometimes I even find the time to hop off my bike and shoot some wicked reflections, unfortunately not too often lately, but at least I'm storing all those unshot images in my brain for my own personal entertainment, and maybe some day Science and technological development will allow me to download them to the Interwebs or something, hehe. And just in case you forgot: Today is the first day of Spring, finally :)))

I'm not feeling so hot, I think I'm getting sick from all the stress I'm experiencing lately, I know that my body tends to do that, in the interest of self-preservation, it will shut down after prolonged periods of excessive working and not taking any time to rest and relax, but at the moment there is nothing I can do about it except ordering my sinuses to clear up, my itchy throat to get smooth and usable again by spooning liters of Honey into it, and my hurting head to stop throbbing by offering it various pills and powders that don't seem to have any effect. This morning I woke up feeling like some big animal has been chewing on my body all night long, my eyes hurt and I can't even imagine doing anything today besides doing nothing, hoping that this will get me ready to face another harsh, intense day at the office tomorrow, what a life! And I know, it could be much worse, so I'm trying to cheer myself up and set my mind to a healing state that will allow me to feel human again, possibly later today already, the mind is a powerful thing after all, wish me luck, feel free to bring me chicken-soup and pet my head, I like that, thank you very much :)

AmsterSam The Drunken Reflectah Selfreflections in a bar in Amsterdam last night. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. Last night I went to a bar with some colleagues after work and as almost always when I go out, I ended up drinking too much and spend a great evening with lots of laughter, beer, smokes and a delirious madman bike-ride through the seemingly ever-shifting and itself rearranging landscape of an Amsterdam night, oh what fun! Now my head hurts, my stomache is grumbling and I'm even too tired and hungover to drag my limp body into the shower for a refreshing wake-up wash, so if you are in the area, maybe you could climb up to my Penthouse and give me a push and a shove in the general direction of the bathroom, thank you very much. Have an wicked weekend, the sun is shining :)

It's Friday, oh wow, finally, I was living towards this day all week long, too bad I'm still working Fridays at the moment, but at least I've got 2 days to chillax and get my stuff done, it's not really enough time to take care of my personal business, but it will have to do...I can tell you, I am having more respect and admiration every week for all of you guys out there who do this full-time work thing all their life, year in, year out, you must be Superman or something, lol! Another month or so, and I'll go back to my lazy old 4 day week, I'm sooooooo looking forward to that, I must be a Sloth inside a human body, there is no other explanation for my excessive level of laziness, hehehe :)

Greetings From Amsterdam Random shots of Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. Amsterdam, the best city in the world! It's not just because we get to bike wherever we go (which of course is not a good thing if you hate biking, but we love it, so it's a good thing for us, m'kay!?), or because we have some of the hottest girls in the world walking and biking around all over the place in tight, skimpy clothing, or because our city skyline looks like it was created by a romantic, drunk Artist on a sentimental trip down memory lane, or because we can drink or smoke whatever we want, or because we live in peace (at least 99,99% of the time!), love (not necessarily in the ways sactioned by society, but OK, work with me here, lol!) and harmony (most of the time!) while being the home to the most diverse mix of different nationalities in one city (it's true, we are!). It's all that rolled into one, and then some, it's myriads of little things that make it so lovely and desirable to live in good old Amsterdam, and it always breaks my heart to think about the fact that you, my dear Interwebs friend, might not be so lucky, and possibly have to endure your days at some other place, in some other city/country/continent...sorry, didn't mean to make you feel down about not being one of the chosen few, hehehe ;-D

The official start of the lovely season is just around the corner, lets hope that the weather will stay as beautiful as it has been this last weekend :)

From Holland With Love Slighty edited shots of people enjoying a sunny day in Amsterdam yesterday. Taken with my Sony HX1. In preparation for the lovely Springtime that is really close now, all citizen of Amsterdam were required to participate in a Season-Adjustment Drill yesterday, we all had to put on some light, colorful clothing, purchase a hot or cold beverage of our choise at a sales point near us, and fill up the streets and terracces of the cafes and bars while looking happy and appreciative of the pretty weather. Having being involved in the Drill myself, I can confirm that all went very well, the people behaved appropriatelly for the time of the year, almost no drinks were spilled in all the excitement and exercise, and City hall gave the green light afterwards for the official opening of another beautiful, sunny, enjoyable Spring, coming to a park or swimmingpool near you soon, so be ready, keep those shorts and shirts close, it's on :D

Home Sweet Home Random reflections of Amsterdam on a window. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. In the last 5 weeks I had to work a lot more than usual, and I have no time at all anymore to take pictures, a very sad situation, and it makes me miss my lovely Hometown, even though I bike to and from work through it every day, but it's just a fleeting image rushing by while I hurry to the office to make other people rich with my hard work, not really my idea of a good time, but it is what it is, and for now I can't change the situation. I can't take any time off either, which makes me feel boxed in by a high workload, tons and tons of stress and other undesireable elements of the human existence that I don't care for very much. I want my life back, I want to freely roam the streets of the best city in the world again, keep the money, it's no good, because it can't buy me happiness, all it does is sit in my bank account, laughing at me for not being able to spend it, because my little spare time is devoted to sleeping and whining about my harsh life, a vicious cycle if I have ever seen one, and it's all mine, lol :D

Sometimes I'm not sure if I just imagined this wicked Winter Wonderland that our beloved hometown turned into one month ago, but then I look at the pictures and movies that I've made of the beautiful scenes, and I fondly remember the vibe that was all around, everybody seemed to be 12 years old again and all we cared about was to spend as much time as possible on the frozen canals. Now the rain season started and everything it gray and wet, not so nice, but Spring is just a couple more weeks away, and then surely everything is going to be alright :)

I am so looking forward to the Summer, when the European Championship is going to start, and the whole country will be orange again, 2 years ago was soooo much fun, I want to sing and dance with another 120 000 crazy people on the Museumplein again, hopefully this time because we actually won the title, and not just because we're all drunk as hell and high on the local herbs and spices, lol :D

Hello, Good Morning, Good Bye! Random bike-by sunset shots of the Westerpark in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. Just when the days are getting longer, and Spring is slowly taking over, my working hours changed, so now I am working until 6, which I already hate, but in May it's going to be until 9 in the evening, and also Saturdays, terminating any chance for a social life or some sunshine. Of course the person who thought this awesome schedule up is coming in at 9 in the morning and goes home at 5:30'ish, near perfect times if you have to slave away for others. Am I upset? You bet! Do I want to punch somebody and quit my job? Hell yeah! Will I do that? Probably not, I need the money, so for now I'll have to choke on my anger and try to think of a solution...work sucks so much!! F U Capitalism!!!! And F U Lottery tickets, for never making me check the right numbers for the Jackpot!!!!! Aaaarrrrggggghhhhhh.........f**k, f**k, f**k!!!!!! Sam is not happy :((

AmsterSam The Wicked Reflectah Slightly edited shots of myself reflected on a car in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. I was peacefully sitting at home the other day, looking through my picture archive, selecting some shots to post on the Interwebs, when suddenly I realized that most of my self reflections are made with the help of cars, the most despicable and egoistic form of private transportation, and it made me wonder if deep down inside my reflecting soul I might actually like cars on some rotten, subconscious level...once I had finished thinking that dreadful thought I threw up inside my mouth several times, that's how much I dislike cars in the public parts of my conscious, lol. Anyway, I think this is a good example of a Love-Hate relationship as they happen rather often in our confusing, twisted and wicked lifes, sometimes we think we want to totally terminate something or somebody, the next day we might realized we're deeply, madly and irrevocably in love with that thing or person or whatever! Or not, I'm not a shrink, I just made this whole BS up, lol :D

First of all, I need to apologize for calling this series of shots 'The Big Booty Biker Babe', that's a very sexist and demeaning thing to say, and I'm really sorry, but I'm trying to make a point here: The good girls of Amsterdam ride their bikes like Pros, they are faster, fitter, cooler and better looking than any other group of girls on this planet, and they make biking look reallyreally good! But there's one downside to this flaunted fitness, the saddles of our old-fashioned grannybikes squash our behinds into unnatural shapes while riding, and when one of us actually hops of his/her bike, which almost never happens, we even stay mounted when we're sleeping, it takes a while before our tushies find their own form back, resulting in weird shapes while they're resetting to their natural states, and if you're unlucky enough to have me and my cam with its mighty zoomlens in your back while it's happening to you, you end up with pictures like these out there on the Interwebs, hahaha. Sorry Amsterdam ladies, just kidding, you're fiiiiiiiiiine!!!

The Best City In The World Unedited shots of Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. For the last month I have been very busy, working loooong hours and giving up my free Friday to contribute to the corporate success of others, and I did not have much time to do anything fun, like shooting pictures of the best city in the world, so I just wanted to say "I miss you Amsterdam, I still love you very much!", just in case my beloved hometown felt neglected. I sure hope that the months to come will be less stressful, and allow me to go back to my old routine, but the way things are looking, it's gonna get worse before it'll get better...hang in there Sam, you can do this, I know you can, you're the wickedest Reflectah around, Ooooooom, Amen, Praise the Lord :D

Saturday was a lovely, sunny day and everybody was outside, trying to catch as much of the sunshine as possible, it was sooo nice! I started my morning with coffee on my balcony, always a good way to begin the adventure of a new day in the best city in the world, and that lead towards a relaxed day out in the streets, armed with my camera to capture the spirit of a typical Spring day, even though it's only February. Let's hope we'll get loooots of those days in the weeks and months to come, a bit of sunshine makes everything just so much nicer :)

Greetings From Graffiti City Unedited shots of Graffiti in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire using the Camera360 Android app. I was biking through the Downtown area last weekend when I saw this wall, I hadn't noticed it before, so either it's new, or I simply don't pay much attention to my surroundings...or both, lol. Anyway, I really like this one, and it also nicely adds to the flavor in the best city in the world, that probably has as much Graffiti covering its wall as the locals have Tattoos on their bodies, but that's what you get when you put millions of creative, inspired, crazy people into such a narrow place as Amsterdam, hehehe :)
