Sunday 31/07/2011 I Walk Through The Valley Of The Shadow Of Death Slightly edited shot of shadows in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing besides a bit of added contrast, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. As you might know, I love shooting wicked reflections, but sometimes I deviate from that theme and take pictures of other things, like shadows. They look cool and don't require any kind of special effects to achieve this, they're just awesome by nature. It's been a really crappy, cold and wet Summer so far, so shooting shadows is a bigger challenge than taking pictures of puddles, because of the missing light, so this is me trying to make the most out of a bad situation, my cup runneth over and even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me...or something like that :) Saturday 30/07/2011 Wherever I Lay My Hat (That's My Home) Unedited shots of the Amstel Hotel in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. The Amstel Hotel is the home away from home for many famous and rich people, biking by that building your chance of seeing somebody that you know from TV is so high that I'm always riding extra slow to avoid hurting somebody who is essential to the world of entertainment. I'd hate to be responsible for the untimely demise of your favorite actor or singer, and I'm sure it would reflect badly on the best city in the world if for example George Clooney or Snoop Dogg would breathe their last breath underneath the wheels of the fabulous Lord Bikenheimer, tangled in a mess of broken spokes and spare parts, that would not look good on the telly. Friday 29/07/2011 Dutch Flowers Friday Unedited shots of Dutch Flowers in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. It's Friday, my weekend started, and I feel really strange, I slept almost 10 hours and woke up way past my usual time, now the day is half gone and I'm drinking my 3rd coffee, trying to wake up and ignore the list of tasks I'll have to do today, that keeps popping up in my head, I just want to sit here and space out until it's time to go to bed again. The gray sky is not exactly helping in motivating me to go and get things done, it only enhances my urge to curl up in a corner and wait for the Summer, which has to start eventually, right?! Right?!?!? Hahaha :D Thank God it's Friday! Dutch Flowers Movie I've made a wicked movie of these lovely plants too, check it out on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Thursday 28/07/2011 I Want My Summer Now! Unedited shots of bikers in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I reallyreallyreally want my Summer now! Yesterday we had a sunny, beautiful, warm evening and even though I almost forgot what that feels like in those last weeks/months of rain, it instantly reminded me of what we're missing out on. I've gotten so used to seeing gray skies every day of this season that I can barely remember those days in the park with friends, those bike trips to other countries, and those long evenings on my balcony, so I'll say it again: I want my Summer, now! C'mon weather gods, give us more of those lovely days, I promise I'll be a good boy and behave to show my appreciation, I'll even clean my room, lol :) Wednesday 27/07/2011 How Low Can You Go? Unedited shots of girls at the Dam in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Have you ever noticed that almost any picture will look better if you shoot it from a low angle? I don't know why this is, but it works for nearly all situations, there's just something refreshing about a different angle compared to the average point-and-shoot picture, maybe it's because familiar places and people look skewed or if seen by a dwarf, or maybe it's something else altogether, who knows, but it looks good. In that spirit I dedicate today's pictures to all little people, they might just have a better view of this world than 'normal' sized folks do :) Tuesday 26/07/2011 The Faceless Bikers Unedited shots of bikers in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. When I shoot people in puddles, I'm sometimes wondering when it'll happen for the first time that somebody will recognize him/herself in my picture and contact me to tell me about it. Amsterdam is such a tiny village, that once you get to know somebody, you'll keep bumping into them almost every day somewhere in the best city in the world, as you always have been, without knowing it, because you didn't know that person previously, that's how tiny it really is. So if this is you in this wicked reflection, let me know, I'll send you a free print of 'your' picture :) Monday 25/07/2011 Strange Ways Of Transportation Unedited shots of various transportation means in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Those of us who don't ride a bike have to think of something else to get from A to B, so here's a little overview of the means of transportation that some of us chose. I personally prefer the bike, it's comfy, it's fast, it's stylish and it keeps you really fit and makes your legs look sexy. If I had to try something else, I'd either go with the skateboard, though that gets tiring after a while, or that little white car, it looks kinda goofy, but just enough to make it cool again, and you can even take a friend for a ride :) Sunday 24/07/2011 Babes On Bikes Unedited shots of girls on their bikes in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. You might have heard this before, but I love the Amsterdam girls riding around on their bikes, they look sporty, sexy and fabulous. Since today is a rainy, gray Sunday, I figured posting some sunny shots of babes on their bikes might make this a better day for those of us that are forced to hang out inside by the rain and wind, so if you don't have to, don't go outside, stay in your warm, dry house and check out all those wicked things that these Interwebs have to offer, there's something out here for everybody, dig in, discover, enjoy, but don't look at the naughty stuff, you know it'll soil your soul and then you'll have to go and see a priest for confessions, and we don't want that with this wet weather, lol ;D Sunday Music Saturday 23/07/2011 Forever Under Construction Unedited shots of bikers in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. In these pictures you can see a yellow crane in the background, it belongs to the construction crew that is building a new Metro-line right smack through the middle of the best city in the world, connecting the North with the South, underneath an existing Tram-line, causing whole streets to sag and nearly fall into the construction hole. This giant project was started a looooong time ago and was supposed to be finished years ago (2012), but as it goes with megalomaniac projects, it's way over budget and it's taking tons of extra time, giving us locals the impression that it will never get done, and if it does, it will cost us so much $$$ that we'll have to sell it to the Chinese Government right away to at least have some spare change for a coffee&smoke, to calm down our nerves when we think about the incompetence and mindless, eager urge to create something that nobody needs, that our great leaders are suffering from. But that might just be my own humble feeling, I'm sure there's somebody out there who feels that this was an awesome idea, and that we should continue throwing money into this bottomless pit, lol :) Friday 22/07/2011 AmsterSam Voyeur Cam Slightly edited shots of a girl and her friend in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. I don't usually do this, shooting the body-parts of total strangers without them knowing about it, I really don't, but in this case the cam seemed to have a will of its own, without any input from myself it kept snapping away, shamelessly capturing these fine looking legs against my will...when I realized what it was doing, I smashed the camera on the ground and spend the next 2 minutes stomping on it, trying to stop those evil demons from doing their dirty deeds, but too late, these voyeuristic shots had burned themselves into the deepest inside of my memory card already, leaving me no option but to download and post them to the Interwebs, sigh. I'm deeply sorry, I sincerely apologize, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa, but yeah, who am I to deny Satan's spawn, acting through my cam, its evil will? Just a little wicked Reflectah, that's who, hahaha :D Thursday 21/07/2011 The Puddle Sliders Unedited shots of bikers in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Oh man, people are getting crazier every day, after planking, now the latest rage in the best city in the world is to squeeze into the narrowest slits in the pavement at full speed on our bicycles, trying to overcome the physical limitations that apply to those of us living inside the Matrix, and I can tell you, this is even more dangerous than it looks! I've tried it a couple of times, got tangled up in the time-space-continuum, and after repeatedly having to re-assemble my natural aura and meaty outer shell, I had to realize it's safer to stand back and shoot those stoopid enough to waste their time with this insane attempt at overthrowing everything that's right and just, while they're doing it, sorry, I know, I'm a Girlieman, sue me! Almost weekend, yay :D Wednesday 20/07/2011 Babes On Bikes Unedited shots of babes on bikes in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. I am not sure why, but it seems that everybody, including myself, is fascinated by girls on bikes. I know that it looks fabulous and sporty, but there's something else to it that won't allow the innocent bystanders, including myself, to look away when one of those typical beautiful Dutch girls bikes by on her steel horse. One day I'll figure it out what makes them so hot and sexy when they're biking, and I'll somehow filter the essence out of the situation (not the girls, this is not the 'Perfume', haha :), fill it in bottles and flood the market with it, then I'll be a freakin' Billionaire without having to squat next to puddles any longer and hope that somebody will buy my wicked reflection pictures, hehehe :) Tuesday 19/07/2011 The Magna Plaza Slightly edited shots of people at the Magna Plaza in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing besides some messing around with contrast and saturation, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I really like the Magna Plaza building, it's one of my favorite puddle reflection objects, and just like all the other pretty buildings in the best city in the world, I only know it from the outside...well, that's not entirely true, I have been inside once or twice, but that was in the 90s, so it doesn't count anymore. Maybe I should go inside and see if there's anybody Monday 18/07/2011 2 Girls 1 Bike Unedited shots of 2 girls sharing a bike Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. In the Netherlands everybody love riding a bike, but sometimes there are just not enough of them for all the people to ride on, so we share. In these pictures you can see a typical Dutch street scene, 1 girl is biking, the other one hops on the back and gets a ride without having to do anything but to hang on for dear life. I know I sound like a sentimental old fool, but I think this is one of the nicest things you can do with a bike, offering a ride to a friend, and it's an environmentally sound thing to do as well, everybody profits, the friend, the planet...well, not the one biking, because he/she will have to pedal for two people, but that's what you got friends for after all :) Sunday 17/07/2011 Toys For Boys Unedited shots of a Porsche in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I'm not a big fan of cars, I think they're one of the worst inventions in the history of mankind, enabling each and everybody to deplete the planets limited resources for personal convenience, a principle I don't support. How much better off we'd all be if everybody loved riding a bicycle as much as I do! But, if I had to drive a car, I'd make sure it would look something like this beautiful example of a world-destroyer, at least we'd go down in style and our demise would be easy on the eye. Since I don't have the kind of $$$ it takes to own one of those babies, this is a highly unlikely scenario, so I'll just continue mocking and condemning those who can afford to drive us towards extinction in such a fancy, aesthetic way with their tiny, shriveled up genitals, hehehe :) Saturday 16/07/2011 Babes On Bikes Unedited shots of girls on bikes in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went downtown to shoot some puddles, and I came across so many nice wet spots that I took almost 700 pictures, and only stopped when the shutter button on my camera started to smoke from all the frantic pushing on it. I dunked the cam into one of the puddles to cool it off and then shot some more, to make sure that I'll have enough material for the weeks to come to fill up the Interwebs with plenty of wicked reflections, it's not like it's going to do that itself. I'd actually love to see a graphic overview of how much of the online content was put on the net by myself, I'm sure it would look something like 'AmsterSam = 60%, Rest of the World = 40%', because I'm such a busy bee, haha :) Bike Babes Movie I've made a wicked reflection movie of this puddle as well, watch it on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Back In The Day Friday 15/07/2011 The Dirty Wall Slightly edited shots of Graffiti in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. It's Friday, my weekend started, it rained all night long and now the sun is coming out, that means I'll have to hop on my bike and go puddle hunting, but I just woke up and am having my first coffee of the day...in situations like this one, I wish I had an assistant who I could send out there to shoot those wicked reflections for me, while I go back to bed for some serious snoozing. Since the world refuses to recognize my genius, and pay me accordingly, I guess that won't happen anytime soon, so I'll have to quickly take a shower and after a couple more coffees, go out there myself to take care of things, hahaha :D Thank God it's Friday! Thursday 14/07/2011 I'm A Girl Watcher Unedited shots of the lovely Miss E chilling out by the Amstel in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. I don't know if it's just me, but I think that women are the most beautiful, joyful, lovely thing ever, and I really like spending my time with them, there's just nothing like the smile of a pretty lady when it comes to making my day better. It could simply be that I have my priorities all wrong, but sometimes I wish somebody would pay me for admiring the wicked wonderfulness of Gods best creation...not that I wouldn't do it for free, but I'd just love to walk up to my Boss and tell him that I won't come back to work, ever, because I'm too busy staring at those wonderful manifestations of everything that's right and awesome about life, hahaha :D Wednesday 13/07/2011 I AmsterSam Unedited shots of people at the giant "I amsterdam" letters in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I am considering changing the giant letters that say "I amsterdam" to "I amsterSam", to promote my wicked website, www.amstersam.com, but I'm pretty sure that this would confuse and traumatize all the tourist who just love having their picture taken with them, and currently we can't afford to chase away any further visitors of the best city in the world, now that coffeeshops will be closed clubs only open to local residents, so I probably won't do it....unless I reallyreally want to. If you find the Museumplein completely empty in the not too distant future, you'll know I went ahead and celebrated my egocentricity regardless of the consequences for the financial future of my beloved hometown, hehehe :) I Amster Sam Movie I've made a wicked reflection movie of this puddle as well, check it out on my YouTube page, thank you :) Monday 11/07/2011 Biking Into The Weekend Unedited shots of bikers in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. It's Monday again and all I can think about is the weekend, my favorite time of the week, I'm counting the hours until the happy time kicks in again, not really the best way of dealing with life, as this means that I'm always living ahead of the actual time, yearning for those special days that allow us to do whatever we want, whenever we want, possibly missing out on the right here, right now, but to be honest, I don't care. It's a bit like waiting for Christmas, you know there's something beautiful ahead of you, focusing your energy and positive vibes on a future event while the cold, harsh world rushes by, doing its thing, calling out to you to participate in it, but you (or rather me) only have eyes for those carefree, wonderful magic days...I can't tell if this makes me a smart guy or a Retard, but that's just how I roll, hahaha :D Sunday 10/07/2011 The Blue Hour Unedited shots of Dutch Flowers in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing. I am an early bird, I often wake up at ungodly hours and can't sleep anymore, so I'll get up and drink lots of coffee, causing me to get tired again early in the evening, often missing out on the special pleasures and vibrations that late evenings hold in store for those enjoying them. This must be some genetic defect, as I in fact like those late hours and their charming light and atmosphere, and luckily I wasn't asleep yet when these lovely Dutch flowers were watching the sunset, and I even had enough energy left to lift my camera and shoot them basking in their glory, lol. I hope you're having a relaxing, uplifting and wonderful weekend, I know I am, and my only regret is that not every day can be as beautiful as the last 3 days were, I totally heart weekends, and can't wait for a rich Sugarmamma to come and rescue me from the Grind and make my life an endless free-flowing partay, hahaha :D Saturday 09/07/2011 Meet The Lettermans Unedited shots of people at the giant "I amsterdam' letters in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. These giant letters seem to be one of the most popular tourist attractions in the best city in the world, when ever I go to the Museumplein to shoot them in a puddle, they're surrounded by billions of people having their picture taken while they crawl into the letters, on top of them, between them or behind them...I think the reason for this lies in our subconsciousness, we want proof that we've been to places (hence all the photo-shooting when we're on vacation), and what's better than a picture of yourself spelling out the name of the place you visited in larger-than-life letters?! Nothing, that's what, haha :) Lettermans Movie I've made a wicked reflection movie of these guys as well, watch it on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Friday 08/07/2011 The Dutch Flowers Unedited shots of typical Dutch flowers in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Dedicated to all the Doobie Brothers out there. As you might know, it is legal in the Netherlands to have 5 Marihuana plants growing in your house and you can buy Cannabis products in the Coffeeshops, that sell anything but coffee (well, they do, but it's usually not worth calling it that, as they viciously focus on their core-competencies, lol :), and are rather popular with tourist and locals alike. Too bad we've voted for an ultra-right-christian Government in the last elections, and they decided to finally do away with the few remaining liberties and established easy-goingness in this lovely country, very soon the Coffeeshops will be closed clubs that only locals can enter to purchase mind-altering substances, so no more tourists, no more happy people floating through the streets. Instead we'll get a scenario where shady characters will sell 'weed' to you in the streets, or maybe they'll sell you horse-manure, pretending it's hash, or they'll try to force some Crack, Coke or PCP on you, since nobody will control them, as they do it with the shops now, nobody will know what you'll buy and if it might severly harm you instead of giving you a nice little buzz. I sincerely apologize to all future victims of those scams for the short-sightedness and retardedness that caused the Netherlands to return to the good old times of the 50s, when the world was a 'better' place, we meant no harm and we didn't think it would come to this, but yeah, that's just how we roll in the best country in the world at the moment, good luck and Godspeed :) Thank God it's Friday! Dutch Flowers Movie I've made a wicked movie of these lovely plants too, check it out on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Thursday 07/07/2011 The Amsterdam Skyline Unedited shots of the Amstel tower in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I totally love the Amstel tower, it's the tallest building in the best city in the world, and nobody is allowed to build anything that's taller than it. At night it's often illuminated and makes Amsterdam almost look like a big city, but just almost. Every time I pass by, I'm looking for puddles around, so that I can take a proper reflection picture, but I never manage, there are either no puddles, or there's too much wind, just like in these shots, distorting the greatness of the tower and frustrating me deeply...and that's why I've posted these pictures today, to get it over with, even though they don't meet my usual quality requirements for smooth water surfaces and clearness of the reflection, I just finally wanted to have this awesome building in my puddle portfolio, sorry ;-P Wednesday 06/07/2011 The Yellow Van Unedited shots of people in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I think I've mentioned it already, I'm not a big fan of cars, but sometimes I shoot them anyway, because they look nice inside a puddle. I would never consider buying one of those lazy-machines, I've never owned a car and I can't figure out why I ever made my driving-license, I must have had a black-out when I was 18, there is no other explanation for spending hundreds of euros for a piece of paper that allows you to kill the planet while wasting your time trapped inside a metal cage in a traffic-jam. I'm wondering what would happen if we'd ever get a government that would outlaw cars...I'm sure it would spark a Revolution and people would drive their cars into the Parliament building to express their dissatisfaction and outrage...I think I'd like to see that, maybe I'll start my own political party, who's only goal is to ban cars, hahaha :D Tuesday 05/07/2011 Sign O' The Times Slightly edited shots of stickers and signs in Amsterdam. Taken with my HTC Desire. I like sign, stickers, graffiti, letters, words, language...there are so many fabulous things that can be done with these items, that I'm always amazed that I haven't created any stickers of graffiti promoting my wicked 'AmsterSam' gear yet. I guess it's the laziness that overrules most ambitions in my life that keeps me from doing those things, stoopid genes! But then again, these pictures are proof that there are plenty of people out there already, that are way more creative than I am, covering each topic and blasting their ideas into the world without any assistance from my lazy self...let's call it team-work, lol. Almost weekend ;-D Monday 04/07/2011 Good Day Sunshine Unedited shots of women on their bikes in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I actually don't know if today is going to be a good day, or a sunny one, as I wrote this yesterday already, but I'm hoping for both, even though it's Monday, not necessarily my favorite day. I really need to find myself a rich woman soon, so that I can quit my dayjob and focus on the important things in life, like hunting puddles and shooting them. I know this sounds a bit violent, but no puddles were harmed during the making of these photos, lol. Have a great day, almost weekend :) Good Day Movie I've made a wicked reflection movie of this puddle as well, watch it on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Sunday 03/07/2011 High As The Sky Unedited shots of buildings in Amsterdam, reflected in water. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. Yesterday I went to the Bijlmer, Amsterdam's most notorious 'Ghetto' (yes, the one a plane crashed into, in 1992), to visit a friend, and because I'm almost never in that area of the best city in the world, I got lost and kept biking in circles, waving my Google maps printout at people, asking them which way to go, and finally, after one hour, made it to the right place. On the way back to the city, I got lost again, but ended up passing by these buildings that were rather nicely reflected in a little artificial pond, so it was all good and worth it. These buildings look a bit untypical for this lovely city, that's because they're next to the Amstel station, where our tallest tower lives, the Amstel tower, a landmark that has helped me on many occasions to find back to the civilized world when traveling, as you can see it from farfar away already, waving and smiling at you, showing you the way back home...thank you tower :) Sky High Movie I've made a wicked reflection movie of these buildings too, watch it on my YouTube channel, thanks :) Sunday Morning Music Saturday 02/07/2011 A Day With Miss A Unedited shots of the lovely Miss A and myself in Amsterdam. Taken with my Sony HX1. Yesterday the lovely Miss A and myself went on a little bike trip through the outskirts of Amsterdam and it was so much fun to discover places where I've never been before, even though I've lived in the best city in the world for such a long time. We biked to Diemen, then went to a little beach close to Ijburg, and finally made it to the Amstel with a bottle of wine to top off a perfect, sunny, beautiful Summer day. When the sun set, we went to La Casa AmsterSam, and Miss A cooked us a delicious dinner, adding a juicy cherry on top of the pie that was my Friday...thank you Miss A, I wish every day was as relaxing and easy-going. Have a beautiful weekend :) Day With Miss A Movie I've made a movie of our little trip as well, watch it on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Friday 01/07/2011 Wet Bike Babe Unedited shots of women on their bike in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. It's Friday again, the weekend starts today, the sun is shining, everybody is happy and looking forward to 3 days of being lazy, partying and enjoying life without having to slave away for somebody else, my personal favorite time of the week. I really have to find myself some rich Sugarmamma who can support my nasty habbit of hunching over puddles, shooting the people passing by, staring into the watery spots, trying to figure out what in God's name I'm doing there. This might sound weird to the untrained ears, but that would be my dream-life, chasing the rain, pointing my camera at each and every puddle that crosses my path...I might be the only person on this whole planet who'd consider that a sweet life, hahaha. Thank God it's Friday, have a great start into the weekend :D Thank God it's Friday! Wet Bike Babe Movie I've made a wicked reflection movie of this puddle too, check it out on my YouTube channel, thank you :) Last Month |
