Help, the rain won't stop! Finally, after almost 3 months the snow has disappeared, only to be replaced by permanent rain, I can feel that I'm starting to grow gills and my hands and toes are webbing over, soon I'll be able to live under water, I need to get myself a waterproof camera to document that new, wet lifestyle. Oh well, maybe I'll manage to take wicked reflections from inside the water as well ;-D

Doomed to continue building the new Metro line that will cause the whole beautiful city of Amsterdam to collapse into the giant tunnel system that will be drilled very soon, after decades of delays in the preparations and exploding costs that start more and more to look like the typical price for a month of war in Iraq/Afghanistan/Wherever...those huge holes will probably really good for taking puddle pictures though, so I won't object to the finalization of this megalomaniac project ;-P

Those magic days that make you forget all the troubles of a work week and give sense and meaning to life...I wish every day was weekend and that the necessities of survival would just fall out of the sky, nourishing and supporting us lazy people in our fight for total freedom from any restrictions on our time and activities :))

Last weekend I went to take some photos and movies of those big letters and shortly after I was done, the 'a' and the 'm' were stolen...wasn't me! I know that I've said that I'd like a smaller version of them to decorate my living room with, but that does not mean that I would actually steal them, now would it?! I am currently working closely together with the Amsterdam Police Department to prove my Innocence and to assist in capturing the real Perpetrator(s)! Those horrible people! Hahaha ;-D

Chewwie Unedited shot of girls posing at the giant 'Iamsterdam' sign outside the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I just love that sign, I only wish they had not made a typo, clearly it should say 'IamsterSam'! Anyway, those pretty girls hanging out at those letters at any given time more than make up for this little lapse, it's just so much fun to see them crawling all over the place, having their pictures taken inside 'my' letters, it's all good. The girl seems to be stuck to a big piece of chewing gum, but it's just the edge of the letter peeking out! 
Strike A Pose! She's just so happy to be in the best city in the world, she actually started levitating! 
Happiness It seems that the shot was successful, they look all happy and excited! 
Terd This guy seems to be thinking about that typo as well, he's all convinced that it would not have been necessary to make this mistake, it's not that hard to spell 'AmsterSam'...I agree with him :))

Keep driving your car, try to get your hands on old cans of hairspray and burn every rubber item you can find, together we can make this happen, a warm, CO2-rich future for all of us ;-D

One of the best things about Winter is the light, everything is soaked in this mysterious sunshine that makes things look nice and fluffy. Today the sun is shining again so I'm going downtown in a minute to see if I can find some nice puddles to do my wicked thing :)

The freakin' Winter is back, and it's angry! Yesterday morning Amsterdam was completely white again, covered in the lovely snow we've come to love so much in the last 2 1/2 months...when will this end?! I'm really tired of risking my life every time I leave the house, I'm tired of wearing all the clothes I have at the same time and still being cold, I'm tired of people telling me to enjoy it instead of complaining about it (although there are less and less of those lately, haha ;) and I'm really tired of having to smoke ciggies outside in the icy wind, you can't even tell if the burn in your lungs is caused by the smoking or the harsh storm entering your body through every uncovered orifice :))

This poor guy, somebody stole his bike and now he's got to run wherever he needs to go! Having your bike stolen is a traumatizing, horrible experience, it's a bit like losing your favorite pet that you dearly love and nobody can bring it back, unless they're Stephen King of course. Usually you'll spend the next months looking for it everywhere, suspiciously glancing at everybody passing by on a bike that even remotely resembles yours, ready to punch them of their/your steel horse...we have this running gag in Amsterdam, if you see a bike that you like, you just yell "Hey, that's my bike!" and if you're lucky the person in question will drop it and run the other way...maybe that's why this guy is running ;-))

This week it got really cold again, luckily without snow, but it's getting harder every day to keep riding the bike, these freezing winds that seem to come straight from Siberia try to blow us out of our saddles and bring tears to our sad eyes that will then freeze again (the tears, not the eyes!), get blown into the sky and come down as ice-rain somewhere in Belgium or France...what a vicious cycle :)

There's nothing as dangerous as a mother or father watching over her/his children while they're riding a bicycle, their protective instincts are on high alert and they'll do whatever it takes to ensure the safety of their little ones, they become the Godzillas of biking...I've tried passing this dad with a child in a little chair in the front once and he felt endangered by me coming up from behind, so he wildly swung in my direction and almost caused me to crash into a metal pole, for no obvious reason...needless to say that I would have kicked him into the Amstel if it wasn't for the kid hanging on to dad&the bike for his dear life :))

One thing I really like about Winter is the light...you'll often find yourself surrounded by golden sun rays, softly stroking the faces of the people, making everything and everybody look pretty and happy. Those days make me even more aware of the fact that I am one of the chosen few ( about 750 000 to be exact) that actually live in the best city in the world, something that most people who know Amsterdam have wished for at one time or another :))

I really like this picture, it's got a pretty building in it and bikes, a good combination...these guys look like they're floating through the puddle instead of biking, hopefully a scenario we'll see more often once Hoover-bikes will be the standard equipment for fit, fashionable Amsterdam people. We won't have to worry about all that ice and snow anymore that made biking such a dangerous task in the last weeks, yay :))

Yesterday the streets were so iced over that I was actually getting really worried every time I saw another biker coming my way that we might slip, collide and explode in this giant mushroom of body- and bikeparts that you could have seen from outer space or at least on Google Earth...except for the exploding part this is a true story and it could happen to you (if you, like me, are stoopid enough to bike around in the best city in the world while it's frozen). Luckily our city council keeps the remaining salt in the storage facilities and does not do anything about the people falling and cracking their skulls open, so that once this Winter is over, Amsterdam will be populated by a super-race of extra sturdy, unbreakable people, survival of the fittest baby!
