I wish you all the best for 2011, I wish you tons of happiness and prosperity, friendship, financial success and good sex, I wish that all your dreams come true and that you always get what you want, and that it'll be your best year ever, and that every year after that will be always a bit better than the last one...take care, take it easy, see you on the other side. Last but not least, thank you so much for taking part in my life via this wicked creative outlet called the Internet, without you and your many positive comments it would have been a lot less fun, I'm glad that I know you and that you always take the time to share your thoughts and ideas with me, it was much needed&appreciated :)

As of next week, I am finally back to my old schedule of 4 days of work and a 3 day weekend, yay! Due to sucky circumstances I haven't had any vacation in the Summer or for Christmas, so I am seriously burned out, overworked and stressed, the only thing that kept me going in the last months was the idea that I'll start the new year with excess amounts of spare vacation days and my beloved 4-day-week, and now I'm so close, I can practically smell the good start into a lazier, better, more relaxed year, pheeeeew! To give myself a head-start, I took the last day of 2010 off, not so much to go out and party on New Years Eve (I doubt that I'll even have enough energy to open a bottle of beer and smoke a ciggie with it, lol), but to finally get some proper rest and sleep, to be able to welcome 2011 with open eyes and not the usual half-closed, red'ish slits I've been looking at life with lately, hehe :)

This Winter started very early and it does not seem to want to stop, we've had record amounts of snow falling on our sorry, frozen heads, the traffic systems completely crashed several times and the whole country ran out of salt to keep the roads usable already at the beginning of December. Personally I don't really mind, the bike paths are pretty clean and relatively safe to travel on, but I have to say, I'm majorly looking forward to Spring and the first time I can hang out in the park with my friends. This white version of Winter is still better than the gray, rainy one we got so used to in the previous years though, so I'll shut up now, lol :)

Amsterdam Christmas Reprise Unedited shots of boats on a Christmas parade on a canal in Amsterdam last week. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing. Last week there was a Christmas parade of boats in Amsterdam, there were lights everywhere and musicians playing Christmas songs, it was a beautiful display of the Spirit of the Holidays and me and many other people standing by the canals enjoyed it very much. It was one of those beautiful moments that you don't forget and that make you aware that this time of the year is a special one...I still keep hearing the music in my head and remembering this event makes me happy each time I recall it :))

As of January, I should be back to my old schedule of working only 4 days a week and being off every Friday, hopefully there'll be some snow left, so that I can roll around in it and throw it at the people rushing to work, lol ;-P

It's Christmas time and even the windows in Amsterdam's world-famous Red Light District are decorated appropriately...I'm not sure how Christmas'ish the atmosphere is once you're on the inside, but at least they're trying their best to keep things happy and season-oriented, and as so often around this time of the year, it's the thought that counts, hehe. I hope you're having a wonderful Christmas time and that you get to spend lots of quality time with those people that you care about, because that's what it's all about :)

Earlier this week I've posted some shots of posters at Bus-stops, because I took the Tram/Bus/Metro to work in the last weeks to protect my injured back from further damage by bike-accident, but I could not stand using the public transport system any longer, and I feel muchmuch better, so I'm back in the saddle again, riding my bike through the snow and over the ice-crust, and it feels so good that I've decided to post these 'twin shots' of those posters, but then, reflected in a puddle, in true old-school AmsterSam style, I hope you like them :))

The best city in the world is still covered in snow, but that's just all the stuff that came down last week...I took this shot early in the morning last Friday, it kept going on like that all day and caused a major traffic drama all over the country and the rest of Europe. Still, society just goes on with life and everybody tries their best to cope with the situation, either by largely ignoring that it's very dangerous out there or by being over-careful, I am tending to try something different each day, to keep thing interesting. Almost weekend, almost Christmas, I hope we'll get a white one :)

As much as I despise the Amsterdam public transport system, there's one good thing about it: If you take the tram or the bus, you usually have to wait for such a long time for them to show up, that you've got plenty of time to take photos of the posters at the bus-stop and your surroundings. Now that I think about it, that's not actually a good thing, because the posters rarely look as enticing as this one, and, yeah, the waiting sucks big time, lol. I can't wait for the ice-layer that completely covers the best city in the world at the moment to crack open, so that I can finally use my bike again...it's not that I'm such a Girlie-man and don't dare participating in the bike-ice-skating that is happening at the moment (I've biked through the whole last Winter without having a single accident...I waited until Spring to crash with my bike, haha :), but I don't want to risk falling and messing up my back again, it finally feels better after 2 weeks of taking it easy and letting it heal...thank you all again for the good wishes and positive vibrations, I'm sure that helped the healing process a lot :))

Since last week unbelievable amounts of snow fell down on the best city in the world and made everything look pretty and romantic...unfortunately it also brought any kind of traffic to a grinding halt and those of us that were brave enough to travel by bike, found their beloved steel horses looking like this when they tried to ride home. I was smart/stoopid enough to take the tram, and it took me over 2 hours to get home Friday night, because I ended up with this hysterical tram-driver lady who kept making announcements over the communication system that she didn't know what to do anymore, she couldn't go on like this and that we should all better get off and try our luck with other kinds of transportation, and then she kicked us out of the tram. Needless to say that the passengers weren't too charmed by her mental breakdown, but luckily a few minutes later another tram showed up, steered by a calm, friendly and very professional dude who safely brought us all home, it still took him a long time and many detours from the regular route, but he did it. When I got off, I complimented him on his excellent tram-driving skills and he was very excited and overjoyed to hear that his performance was appreciated, happy faces all around. I'm not sure if I'll take the tram or the bike today, have to check the weather-report, lol :)

Breakfast At Jeffery's Part 1 Unedited shots of visitors at the "Breakfast at Jeffery's" event last Thursday, reflected on a table and the Champagne bar. Taken with my Sony HX1. Last Thursday the lovely Miss Monyart and myself were invited to show some of our photos at the wickedcool "Breakfast at Jeffery's" event at the Jeffery-West shop in the Runstraat in Amsterdam, another excellent Partay organized by the "Bon Esprit" folks. I nearly lost my mind when I realized that the whole shop is one massive array of reflective surfaces, and I've spent most of the evening shooting the pretty people's reflections instead of slurping the Champagne that was flowing like a waterfall, or even enjoying the delicious ice-specialities supplied by the nice people of the "Fior di Gelato", but I think it was worth it. There was also life-painting by Monark, a visual art show by Gregory Duris and cool music played by DJ Fiix, too bad you missed it :))

Even though there are the Christmas lights everywhere in the best city in the world, I'm having a bit of an issue getting into the right mood, I'm so overworked and stressed out by some of the things that have happened to me this year that I'm just not 'feelin' it yet. It doesn't help that I'll have to work on Christmas Eve, the 24th of December, and that for me this year Christmas will just be a 'regular', short weekend...but I guess I shouldn't complain too much, I'm sure it's the same or even worse for other people, so I'll try to pull myself together now and get over it, maybe next year will be better :)

This year has been a bit of a shitty year for me and large parts of it felt like a Chuck-Norris-style Roundhouse Kick to my eggy head...lots of weird, wicked and unpleasant things happened to me and I will not remember 2010 too fondly, I can tell you that much already! On the other hand, there were also lots of happy days, lots of laughter, lots of love and many other good things that make life such a cool experience, luckily. I will share more details with you in the weeks to come, as I wrap up this strange year, and I will hopefully also find some more time to spend with all the lovely guys&gals on Flickr and visiting this site, I know I've neglected you a bit lately, and I'm really sorry about that...but this wicked Reflectah is thinking about YOU sometimes, and you should do the same for him, thank you :)

Amsterdam is covered with Christmas markets and the whole place is illuminated beautifully, making the best city in the world look even prettier than it already does. I'm a sucker for those lovely lights and walking around in the Downtown area these days usually leaves me in a romantic, cheery, yet somewhat sad mood. I'm not sure where that sad part is coming from, maybe it's because I often hear that old song in my head that goes a little something like this: "It's Christmas time There's no need to be afraid At Christmas time We let in light and we banish shade And in our world of plenty We can spread a smile of joy Throw your arms around the world At Christmas time..."

I love Christmas and I love Christmas lights, so every year in November, I start decorating my house with various lights and I bring the Christmas tree that lives on my balcony inside to make it part of the overall experience. This year, with my new Sony HX1 camera, that was given to me by a very special, dear person as an early Christmas gift, I'm actually trying to finally understand what all the buttons and settings are there for, I've never cared much about these things because I usually managed to snap some proper shots anyway if I tried long enough, but in 2011, I'd actually like to try to 'get' what that wicked, wonderful machine can do and take the best photos possible. Wish me luck, lol ;-))

In the last years Amsterdam has been transformed from Sleaze-City into a family-friendly version of Boring-town, and one of the parts where this is very visible is the world-famous Red Light District, millions of windows were closed down and either replaced with Fashion-studios run by students, or artsy displays of glamorous, glitzy things, or they were simply boarded up with wooden planks. I've complained about this, and other unwelcome changes, a lot in the past and I figured since it's been a while that I've last bitched&moaned about this, you might think that I've accepted the fate of the best city in the world and moved on to spend my days whining about my back that hurts, but that is not the case, I just got bored with listening to my raving&ranting, lol :D 
Today I am going back to work after sitting at home for one week, watching my messed up back slowly heal, I hope that I'll make it through the day OK, I'm going to use the public transportation system, and that is my least favorite way of moving around, but I don't want to risk falling off my bike and ruining my health any further than I've done already this year. Have a good start into the new week :)

Ho Ho Ho! Unedited shots of Santa on the Christmas market at the Rembrandtplein in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. Yesterday I went outside for a walk, to see how my messed up back deals with movement beyond the tapping on my keyboard and the reach for the coffeemachine, and luckily I managed to spend some time outside without too much pain. And since the lovely Pam had asked me for some pictures of the holiday atmosphere in the best city in the world, I went to the Christmas market at the Rembrandplein and shot some wicked reflections with my new cam, the cool Sony HX1 (that I've received as an early Christmas present from a very special person thank you so much, you know who you are and you know how much I appreciate this :)). I still need to get used to the new cam, but I like what it does and I'm looking forward to spending some quality time hunched over puddles with it in the future :)

Since I am forced to stay inside and let my messed up back heal properly, I can't take new puddle pictures, so I'm going to bore you with these shots that I took in the Summer, I hope you're not too upset about this, lol. I'm always amazed about the clarity and details in my reflections, I'm not sure how I do it, but I'm sure glad that my cam knows how to achieve these wicked results. Looking at these pictures also makes me wish it was Summer, I can't wait to see the fiiiiine Amsterdam ladies in their skimpy dresses again that would get them locked up for obscene public behavior in wide areas of the world, but in the best city in the world we just admire them and post their photos to the Interwebs, hehehe. The Winter is really wicked again this year, so much snow and ice, I'm glad that I'm sitting inside, letting my messed up back heal, instead of being out there, trying to do what needs to be done, and risk falling and breaking my hips or cracking my skull on the sidewalk. Of course it's not nice that I'm inside because I'm already injured, I'd much rather just have a vacation and stay inside because I can, not because I have to, lol. Anyway, if you're out there, be very careful, from what I can see through my window, there's currently an Ice/Rain/Snow storm going on, so take it easy, take it slowly and be safe :)

I've mentioned it yesterday, I've majorly messed up my back last weekend, and now I'm sitting at home with lots of pain, but luckily today it hurts already a bit less, and I've regained some of my ability to move without too much agony, still it's an annoying situation and I'd much rather be at work right now than to have to keep still and sit it out, waiting for the slooow healing process to do it's thing. The only upside is that I don't have to risk my life riding my beloved bike over the ice-crust that is currently covering the best city in the world, so I'm trying to see this as a well-deserved vacation...if only it didn't hurt so much, I might actually enjoy this. Think about me every now and then, and send some good vibrations to my aching, aging body, it needs it, thank you very much :)

I've messed up my back really good yesterday by lifting a heavy chair in the wrong way, and now I'm in serious pain and agony, I can barely walk or even stand, only sitting and laying is relatively painless. I went to see my doctor this morning, and just as I expected, he told me that there's nothing he can do about it, it'll be alright with time, here, have are some painkillers. If it wouldn't hurt so much, I'd be amused yet again about the way that Dutch doctors approach any kind of injury or affliction, which usually consists of doing nothing and making you buy Aspiring out of your own pocket, the all-round cure in the best country in the world, that they apply to each and everybody of us poor souls that dare stepping into their circle of power. I think this is some kind of secret 'Survival of the Fittest' program initiated by the Government, where they're weeding out the weak citizens by simply leaving them to their own devices, to see if they'll be able to walk it off, or perish, and cease to burden the Health system with their little boo-boo's...sigh. Wish me luck that I belong to the first group, thank you :)

The 3rd and last shot of my Bus-stop Lingerie series to help keep the men of the world warm and cozy...looking at this photo reminds me of this article I've read last Winter about the new Ice-age that has started recently, and that might last for the next 20-30 years...whatever happened to Global Warming?! Going by the last years, the Global Cooling theory seems to make more sense, lol :))

Wikileaks Under Attack You might have heard about this already, the website Wikileaks is under attack by various Governments for spreading information online that the rulers of this planet would rather not share with you. They're trying to force the site offline, cut off their financial support and arrest the man behind it, Julian Assange, on some (fake?!) rape charges...interesting to see how the powers to be don't get how the Internet works, lol ;-P

The cold weather continues in the best country in the world (and the rest of Europe/the world), so it becomes more important each day to have some possibilities to warm yourself up while out there in the chilling iciness of this Winter. Luckily there are plenty of these lovely advertisements all over the place, and every few hundred meters guys can stop their vehicle and glare at the Beauty of these excellent reminders of one of Nature's finest creations, women...of course we also totally appreciate the quality of the products they're trying to sell, hehehe. I know, I know, I probably come across as some chauvinistic, male pig, but to be honest, I just care about my own body temperature right now, I'll be a nice guy again in Spring, when survival is much easier and doesn't require me to stand excitedly and in awe in front of giant photos of barely dressed, fine-looking females, lol ;-D

Cold Days, Warm Thoughts Unedited shot of a poster at a Bus-stop in Amsterdam. Taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. No editing. During these cold days it is important to try to keep yourself warm by any means necessary, so when I biked by this poster yesterday, I just had to stop and take this shot, I felt much better and pretty warm'ish right away, lol. I guess that was the idea of the makers of this poster, or maybe they simply tried to get as many men as possible to slam their cars/bikes/buses into the nearest obstacle, and I have to say, they did a great job, it's rather distracting to see this Beauty while there are icicles growing out of your nose and your hands are frozen to the steering wheel of your car/bike/bus... in the name of the male population of the best city in the world, thank you, unknown advertising people, for adding this little hot spot to our lives, we appreciate it, hehehe ;-P

Winter In Holland Unedited mobile phone cam shots of the Winter in Amsterdam. Taken with my C905 mobile phone. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I've said it already earlier this week, I miss the Summer...we are currently experiencing a wicked Winter in the best country in the world, snow, ice and incredibly cold winds coming straight from Russia that always seem to blow in your face, no matter in which direction you look. This is a bit of a challenge when riding a bike, but I am more than happy to give it a try each and every day, so far I did not have to resort to taking the Tram or Metro (don't like them, don't need them) and I silently suffer on my daily 10-kilometer commute, not just because my lips are frozen shut, but also because my cool bike, Lord Bikenheimer, helps me wherever possible and together we manage to make it to the office in just a slight state of hypothermia, nothing to worry about, lol ;-P

I've mentioned it already a couple of times, people usually give me weird looks when they see me doing my wicked puddle thing, sometimes risking to crash into other bikes, cars or people, so I try to look as inconspicuous as possible, trying to emulate a Bum just sitting by the side of the road instead of a Madman taking pictures of reflections that nobody but me seems to be able to see until I point them out, something I do frequently when the ballsy bystanders ask me what I'm doing. They then usually go 'Aaahhh, wow, I've never noticed', which makes me wonder, what the hell is wrong with me that I see something that nobody else can see?! Am I retarded? Do I have too much time? Am I a freakin' Genius?! I sure don't know the answer to that, it's probably a healthy mix of all of those factors, lol. Anyway, almost weekend now, have a good one :)))
