These girls seem to look somewhat critical into the future, or maybe they're just confused that I'm taking their picture in a puddle while they're waiting for the red light to turn green...whatever the reason, I think they should cheer up, as we are at the brink of a new year, a new chance to fulfill our dreams, hopes and good thoughts, to make new friends, make all those things happen that we did not manage to do in 2009 and to make the very best out of 2010 :))

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Wednesday 30/12/2009 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Shouw What You Got Unedited shot of a mother&child on one bike, reflected in a puddle in front of the Stadsschouwburg in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. This mother/child bike situation is a very common one in the best city in the world (and the rest of the country too, of course :), one adult is biking and up to 3-4 kids (bakfiets!) are attached to the vehicle in various positions, either strapped to the bike or hanging from the steel bars in the front, back or side of it, or simply standing on screws or pipes protruding from the main body of their means of transportation, often in a suicidal fashion that clearly indicates that they not care if they live or die, as long as they can force as many bodies onto the metal frame as humanly possible, a bit of a circus-freakshow kinda thing we got going on here, but oh well, it's the 21st century after all :))

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Tuesday 29/12/2009 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Fairy Tale City Unedited shot of a couple on a scooter, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. Yesterday I went out to do some puddle hunting and lucky me, the conditions were near perfect, I managed to snap some cool reflection pictures and some new movies as well. I'm always amazed at how wicked and Fairy tale like the best city in the world looks when viewed in a puddle and you'll often find me smiling&making happy sounds when I review the things I've just shot :)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Monday 28/12/2009 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx The Patient Panda Unedited shot of the lovely Miss Monyart and some tourists, reflected in a puddle in Amsterdam, taken with my Panasonic DMC-FZ8. Last weekend I went downtown to take some puddle pictures and the lovely Miss Monyart joined me to watch me do my wicked thing...unfortunately for her it's very boring to observe the creation of my reflection shots, as I spend all the time running from puddle to puddle, hunching down to take some pictures and hurrying off to the next wet spot. You can see her standing around bored in the background, looking a bit like a Panda who just found out that all the Bamboo in Amsterdam has been uprooted and washed away by the Winter wind...sorry Miss M :)

I really like how this kid looks a bit like a space cadette with his giant headset...they say that listening to loud music in this way can cause severe damage to the hearing but the typical consumer of such gear usually ignores the kind of advice that sounds like it came from his/her parents, so we're probably witnessing a future generation of hard-hearing, iPod-loving world leaders&astronauts growing up at the moment, hehe :)

xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Tuesday 22/12/2009 xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx AmsterS@m's Road Trip I went for a short trip last weekend and I am very lucky to have made it home, the Winter has caught the Dutch Railways completely off-guard it seems, there were almost no trains and those that actually made it through the snow had massive problems...this is so weird and unusual that even the German Railway folks have offered assistance (English translation) to their Dutch counterpart because they could simply not imagine why their own trains went on time, while the Dutch ones did not go at all, hahaha :D

Yesterday I went to the city to take some puddle pictures and wicked videos, it was an almost perfect day with lots of sunshine, pretty girls, good coffee and to top it off, a big demonstration on the Dam square of supporters of the right for abortion against a bunch of 'Jesus loves you'-signs holding religious nut cases, divided by a strong police force, proving that Democracy is not dead, it just smells a bit funny :)

The 'Smokey' Coffeeshop is a landmark in the best city in the world, it's huge, it's red and it's got a confusing name, even though I would never set foot inside it, for fear of being mistaken for a tourist and having to pay unreasonable prices for whatever merchandise it is they're having on offer in there...but just like the 'Bulldog' or the 'Grasshopper', it seems to wildly appeal to the urges of the visitors of Amsterdam, so I guess they're doing something right :)

You might have heard of the 'Bulldog' Coffeeshop, even if you have never been to the best city in the world, it's a Household brand in this wicked world, at least in certain circles...you can find them all over the planet, even though the ones in Amsterdam are probably those that are known the best :) 
My personal opinion is that they are tourist-traps, like most of these shops, but if it rocks your boat, don't forget to pay them a visit when you're around, they need the money and I'm sure they have some nice T-shirts, Energy-drinks, Hotel rooms or other likable things that appeal to everybody, not just the smokey people :)

Henk Schiffmacher is a living legend, he started the world famous 'Hanky Panky' Tattoo shop in the Amsterdam Red Light District and has made many famous people look more colorful with his Art. In this picture you see his shop on the Ceintuurbaan 416, luckily it had a big puddle just outside the window when I passed by last weekend :)

This is a very typical situation when I take my puddle pictures, people look at me, not sure what I'm doing and how they should respond to a guy sitting next to a puddle with his mobile phone, waving it at the wet spot, so I've trained myself to respond with this sweet 'I'm not crazy, I'm creative' smile that usually elicits a smile in return, often accompanied by understanding eye winking, from the people walking by :-)) 
This has very likely saved me from them calling the cops and me spending many nights in jail, as I tend to forget the mandatory ID-card at home and would probably have a hard time explaining to the arresting police officers that I was indeed shooting wicked reflections and not trying to poison the good folks of Amsterdam by attempting to enter LSD or Anthrax into the water-cycle through a puddle...an absurd scenario, but not as absurd as the fact that the Netherlands are the only country in the world where you can get locked up if you don't have an ID-card on you..I know people who got arrested for failing to produce a valid ID and they remained locked up until somebody else would confirm their identity!

Today I am not only excited about having managed to shoot myself in a puddle without any help, I'm also overjoyed because as of this week I have a new schedule...I don't work on Fridays anymore!!! Every freakin' Friday I am off and can do whatever I want, enjoy life a lot more, take tons of puddle pictures, drink a million coffees, smoke thousands of cigarettes and meet hundreds of my lovely friends... unless I'm too lazy to do any of those things, then I'll just hang out on my couch with my cool little Netbook, yay :D

No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop. I did it! I finally took a wicked puddle reflection of myself! I am not sure if I am more amazed by this photo or the fact that it took me several years to figure out how to shoot a wet picture of myself without any assistance from others, but here it is, AmsterS@m the wicked Reflection :) 
If you're wondering how this is possible, check my pose, it gives away the secret: I've put my phone next to the puddle, supported by a coffee mug, turned on the timer and ran back to the other side of the puddle...unfortunately, or luckily, in this case I prematurely assumed that the picture was ready and walked back towards the cam when it went off, hence the 'dynamic' stride. This makes me so happy! Last weekend I went to the Dam Square to shoot a couple of wicked reflection movies and of course I ended up taking some photos as well...I like this one, it's got a fine Hotel, a giant Schlong (no, wait, that sounds wrong, I don't like giant Schlongs, haha :)), a torso-less head and a pretty girl trying to run away from my the aggressive snapping of my cam, perfect, hahaha. Almost weekend and just 4 more days until Sinterklaas, the traditional Dutch Christmas, yay!
